Today Janina Pietrasiak and Maria Lopuszanska live like sisters. They meet everyday and help each other out. Both lives alone and they are not very rich. Maria’s parents were anti-Nazi underground activists. They sheltered Janina and her mother. Janina’s mother died of tuberculosis. That time, Janina clung desperately to her new family. She was baptized to become part of the family to avoid being detected and killed by the Nazis. She gave up the chance to live with an uncle in the United States. During the Warsaw Uprising, the girls had to fend for themselves. Maria's father was sick and her mother was demonstrating against the Nazis. Janina lost both parents. Her only sibling survived the war but later committed suicide. Janina and Maria had cancer. Janina is separated. Maria is a widow. She contacted the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem to recognise Maria and her parents for saving her during WWI the cash reward can improve Maria’s financial situation.

A time When I Feel Unloved
Saturday, August 1, 2009 @ 6:56 AM

When I was around 11 years old, my sister and I always liked to play computer game, almost every day I played at least once while my sister prefer to surf the internet to playing games. After a while, my mother notices that I have been playing too much computer games, she scolded me for not managing my time and saying that exams are coming. She keep on nagging about if you face the computer u will have bad eye sight, and so on. In my heart, I wanted to talk back to my mother, but I thought of it twice, firstly I do not dare to, if not she would nag more. And secondly, I think by doing that is very rude. I have never once talked back to my mother before because I do not have the guts. Meanwhile, I was thinking that why always pick on me? Never say anything about my sister even though she surf the internet MORE then me. I have always think that my mother love my sister more then me because my sister always have better grades then me everything that she does is always better then me. But after a few days, obviously I have forgotten about this sort of stupid thing and move on.
Now I am secondary student, I feel that I am so happy that I am better then my sister in grades [just by a few marks…] ==

Caught in a Storm
@ 6:54 AM

To my opinion, I feel that thunderstorm is a scary thing. Suddenly, out of the blue, the sound of the thunder appeared out of no where. I see that once I saw a lightning I could observed that most of the people, [especially the girl] would start covering my ears to prevent from listening to that horrible, awful and shocking sound. Whenever there is a thunder, lightning would appear first as light travels faster then sound [learn that from science]. When I see a lightning, I could feel that the electricity is running through my skin.

The troublesome about having been caught in the storms are whether I have brought my umbrella. If I do not have an umbrella, I will be soaked wet running in the rain for shelter. My shoes will be wet, my socks will be wet, I could feel that the muddy water squishing between my toes. Storm weathers are one of the most troublesome times ever.

Mass volcanic eruption nearly ended life on earth

A volcanic eruption nearly obliterated all life on earth 260 million years ago, new research has revealed

The blast was on a scale that has never been seen by humans and happened even before dinosaurs came along when Earth teemed with creatures which are now extinct.
Lava and ash spewed up from beneath a shallow ocean that once covered Emeishan in southwestern China and rained down on primitive plants and animals across a single supercontinent known as Pangea - which later split into Africa, South America, Australia and Antarctica.

It unleashed around half a million cubic kilometers of lava, covering an area five times the size of Wales.Scientists were able to pinpoint the exact timing of the eruption and directly link it to a mass extinction event because the lava appears now as a distinctive layer of igneous rock formed from magma sandwiched between sedimentary rock containing easily datable fossilised marine life.

There was also a mass extinction of life on Earth when 96 percent of all ocean species and about 70 percent of all land species became extinct.
Giant explosive eruptions such as these may have impacted the planet's climate because large eruption columns could spread ash particles and toxic gasses into the upper atmosphere and around the globe.

Views On Terrorism
Monday, July 13, 2009 @ 11:05 PM

After reading the two articles about terrorism, I felt that terrorism is terrifying. I am scared that it may happen anytime, anywhere. It may also happen to my loved ones. I am afraid that one day I might face this "moment" [touch wood]. The most frightening thing is that you do not know where it will happen. It may also happen beside us. [Scary. Touch wood.]

In my opinion, terrorist kills anyone they see. Imagine, if they go orchard road, where there is a lot of people, they will start killing like crazy.

Terrorist often like to strike in the country’s transport network so we must take not of any suspicious- locking characters. We should follow the procedure whereby when we saw a suspicious looking person immediately call the police [999].

Everyone should do their part in preventing terrorism. If people do not care about this, it will make the terrorist easier to BOMB us. I think those terrorists are stupid. Do they know that they are killing not one but many [estimated around thousands] INNOCENT people? They should think before they take their actions.

Thousands of people will die in their hands. In my point of view, terrorist watch too much television. They think that by killing people, they will rule the world and they did it for thrill, excitement and fun.

So, in order to prevent terrorism, each and every one of us in the country must do our part.

A Tour to Chek Jawa

Our school is going to organize a trip to Chek Jawa as it is a popular nature enclave in Palau Ubin. There is flora and fauna at Chek Jawa, Pulau Ubin have revealed a great variety of species. For example, the widespread of marine flora and fauna.

The shallow low-tide lagoon, consisting of fine sands, supports a rich marine flora. The seagrass bed is extensive and supports an astonishing diversity of marine fauna not commonly found elsewhere in Singapore. These include various species of Carpet Anemones, Sea Stars, Sand Dollars and Sea Cucumbers.

Chek Jawa has indeed won the hearts of many. For some, it has a giant touch pool, a playground, and a poet’s corner. For others, Chek Jawa is a natural wonder with huge potential for education and research.

The chance for Singaporeans to experience a recreational nature area that they might not be able to see elsewhere. Sand and mud flats of this type are no longer found in other parts of Singapore.

We hope that you are able to take this opportunity on this wonderful trip to Chek Jawa. Chek Jawa can also be considered an extended classroom offering a different experience for students as well as a chance to observe a part of Singapore rarely glimpsed. We will be very thankful if everybody turn up for this magnificent trip.

Yours faithfully
